Even though the environmental repercussions are being debated, and solutions to the impact being investigated, there’s no denying the spectacle that the Yee Peng Festival in Chiang Mai accords.
Thousands of paper lanterns float into the sky, an illuminated glowing cloud, and with the more widely-known Loy Krathong following the festival days, seeing candles drifting down the waterways doubles the scale.
But it’s not as straightforward as heading to a spot and launching one into the air. The Festival has been closely monitored by the government and rules have been implemented for the safety of everyone. If you would like to get the best experience, here are my suggestions for the visitor going to Chiang Mai for this event.
